I just finished academy and I couldn't be happier. Graduation was yesterday. Very cool. So releived to be done. Now the real fun starts. Goin' out and gettin' the bad guys. I start out on graveyard working the not so nice part of town so it should be fun. Here's a shot of me from graduation. Enjoy.

Wow. I just looked at my blog. Has it really been 9 months since I posted anything. Ok, Readers Digest version.Started going to a new church. Very big church. It's weird to be an anonymous face in the crowd. Went through background check with Portland PD. My daughter moved back home. Other daughter graduated HS. Hired by Portland PD. Turned 45 and my wife turned 40 and we celebrated 21 yr anniversary. Celebrated in-laws 50 yr anniversary. Went to police academy on July 26 and just finished week 9. 7 weeks to go. Been a pretty eventful, stressful and happy time but God is faithful and sustains me and my family through it all. Too much info to fit in this format. I'll try (haha) to post info more often. Heres a pic from my swearing in ceremony. Thanks for reading.

Well, here we are on the eve of a new year. Whats in store? I have absolutely no idea. But I know that God is in control. Some new things that are happening going into the new year are, possible job change, new church, daughter moving out and the other graduating soon and moving out for college. We'll be empty nesters soon. WOW!!!!! I'm way too young for that. If some of you that follow this blog or just happen to come across this while surfing the Web, we have had some pretty nasty weather here in Portland. We just finished a massive snowstorm( easy now, it's all relative) in which we received, at my house (see pix), 16 inches of snow, with freezing rain in the middle of that. Everyone that asked for a white Christmas are probably rethinking that request. Not as fun as one might think. Mainly because when you live in an area that doesn't receive regular snowfall, the city is ill-prepared to handle such an event. Not enough and outdated equipment doomed us before we even had a chance. On the brighter side, my in-laws are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this June. Should be fun. So, thats it for now. I'll post more later, especially if I hear any news of job change.

As if I don't subject myself to enough pain and misery, Carolyn, Jim and I ran th EWEB Run to stay Warm in Eugene this morning. Actually, as far as runs go, this was probably my best. Good weather, no rain. I felt good and I ran a PR 1:56:35. Not too bad for not really training much. Probably a fluke.

Just an FYI, I passed my oral boards with Portland Police yesterday. I was really hoping that I would pass. I felt that if I passed everything else then the background check would be a breeze. Anyway, I should know something in the next couple of months. My hope is that I receive an offer from Portland before OSP because I think Portland would be a better fit for me. More opportunities and closer to home. There is always the danger of OSP offering me a position away from here ie; Eastern Oregon, K Falls etc and I would have to turn them down. Hopefully I dont end up shooting myself in the foot(figuratively of course). I'll keep all of you posted.

As all of you know, we have a new president of The United States of America. Barack Obama won in a landslide vote capuring(at last count) 338 electoral votes. I have to be honest and say that I did not vote for him. I am a Republican and will always be one. the Democratic party and all involved, although they nhave many good qualities, has too many fundamental differences that I camnnot support. More on that later, not important right now. Many of the people who read this blog think pretty much the same way I do and are disappointed with this decision. We feel this is not the direction that our country should be going and President Obama is certainly not the man to take us there. But God has a plan and I will not stand in His way, as if I could. Even though I do not agree with our country's choice, that is the beauty of the democratic process and I will support our president. I hope that everyone else in the nation will agree that we are all in this together and we need to stand together and support the new administration. I love America and God bless America.

Run Forrest Run

Today I did a run that I've been wanting to do for awhile. I ran 9.7 miles out Brookman Rd., up and over Chapman Rd. and into Kruger Rd. and back home down Sunset.(If you live in Sherwood, you know these roads). WOW. Very tough. You go up,up, up and then down, down, down. Beautiful run though. At the top of Chapman is a stunning view of Mt Hood, Adams(I think), Rainier and St. Helens. Amazing. Carolyn said I should have just went with her and Jim downtown to run but I didn't want to get up that early and it was too cold. Gotta get ready for the next run , "Run to stay Warm" in Eugene. Test

Today I did a PAT (physical agility test) for Portland Police. It's am obstacle course designed to test our ability to handle extreme physical challenges. The course must be compleed in 4:20 (min/sec) and I did it in 3:23. Not bad if I may say so. Although I feel I had to do better than one of the applicants that kept knocking over the hurdles beam and actually fell down a flight of stairs and then literally fell across the finish line. WOW. Things are getting interesting.....

Greetings. I haven't been posting in awhile but lots has happened. I qiuit the band (time constraints), applied with two police agencies and ran my second Hood to Coast. I am in the background check for OSP and things look good. I had an oral interview with a background investigator last Wednesday and I felt that it went really well. He came to our house and asked questions and interviewed for about an hour. Our team finished H2C in about 27 hours and on my last leg, I ran 8:12 miles. Pretty good for an old fat guy like me. ;-) I'll try to be better about posting as time goes on. If I get the OSP job and go to Police Academy, I'll try to keep you updated at least weekly with what's going on in my training.

Hello everyone out there in "the internets and blogospheres". Sorry I haven't updated in awhile. Been BUSY!!!!!!!!!! I'll try and bring you up to date using the tried and true "Readers Digest" version. After my last post, I have had three interview, two written tests and a physical agility test called ORPAT .Check out http://www.oregon.gov/DPSST/AT/ORPAT.shtml Then after I finished all of that, my wife and I went to Mexico for vacation for vacation. Cabo to be exact. Very fun and relaxing. Ive included a few pics for you. Also the band that I play in has been working hard to get ready for our first official gig. WooHoo. Were playing at Club Underground in Aloha. Should be fun. Anyway, that's about it for now. I'll try to be a little more on the ball with posts in the future. Who knows though. Career change....2

Well, they decided to not call me back after my oral boards for the police officer position. I scored pretty high despite the fact that I'm 43 and no experience, but that was the deciding factor, no experience. They suggested that I apply for reserves and get some practical experience in police work under my belt. So thats one of the directions I am going to try. On another note, please pray for a friend of mine that I work with. He told me today that his wife left him. He is obviously devestated. Pray for reconciliation and comfort for him. He is a Christian and is having a hard time understanding why God would allow this to happen to his family. Shades of Job:( In fact, he quoted Job 1:21 as his life verse right now."And he said, "Naked I came from my mothers womb, and naked I shall return there. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord"." See ya

Career change?????

Well, as I indicated in an earlier blog, I am looking at a possible career change. After 17 years at Coca-Cola, I have decided, with some "gentle" prodding from my wife, to pursue a career as a police officer. WOW. Didn't see that one coming, did ya? Neither did I. I have been tossing around the idea for a couple of years of leaving Coca-Cola and I think the timing is right. God definitely had/has a plan. I have been exercising regularly for the last year, I ordered copies of my college transcripts last year and several other things that seem too coincidental. I feel a change in the seasons. It's exciting yet scary. I haven't applied for a job in 17 years. I gotta go to bed but I'll talk more about this later. I did have my oral boards yesterday and I think I did OK. We'll see.

Big Changes

Well, here I am sitting in front of the computer mere moments after I shaved off ALL of my facial hair. Yeh.....some of you, the next time you see me, may be in for a big shock. Or maybe you won't even notice at all. I don't know. All I know is that I shaved off my moustache for the first time in 25 years. That's right, 25 years. It is so weird. I have an interview for a job on Thursday and I have it under good authority that I will be looked upon favorably if I am clean shaven. My kids have NEVER seen me without facial hair so that will be weird. They both said I looked good though. My wife said that I REALLY look like my mom. SIGH!!! Thanks, Honey (I Think). It's not that I think I look bad or odd, it's just a security thing. It's a defining attribute of me as a man. Oh well, I'll get used to it. I'll stop talking now. See ya.

It's Christmas

Hey all. Here it is, Christmas day and believe it or not, it's snowing. We are at about 300 ft. elevation here in Sherwood,OR. I don't remember the last time it snowed on Christmas. Pretty exciting!!!!!!! I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. What a very special time to give thanks, be with family and give of ourselves to our loved ones and to strangers. I will try to post more in the new year. I am looking at a career change. I will let you know more as the process progresses. I can tell you that our lives will change dramatically if I get this job. Well, here I am writing my "daily" blog entry. HAHAHA!!!!! Sorry I haven't written anything lately( like you care, as if me not writing complete gibberish into a computer is going to stop the earth's rotation). I honestly did run Hood to Coast and I have the picture to prove it but I don't have a digital copy to post. Besides, you really don't want to see a 43 year old man trying to recapture his youth. Not a pretty sight:( Our team did really well. We finished in just under 27 hours. I was really in a lot of pain during and afterwards, but a few visits to the chiroprator and some rest and I am on the mend. Anyway, on to more important things. Seriously, what is up with society? We live in SUCH a evil and depraved world that preys on the lives and hearts and souls of people, especially men. I say this because I have recently been affected by the dissolving of two marriages, one a close friend, due to the husband being involved with sexual sin, specifically pornography. This stuff is EVERYWHERE and so powerful and destroys so many lives. Don't get me wrong. I am not standing behind my pulpit saying that I don't have a problem with this. I do and I am honest with my wife about it. I struggle with the barrage of images that I/we see everyday. Come on, I'm a man!!!!! That's the way God designed me. But when the gift of sex is perverted and put out there to make money preying on the natural feeling that men have, it is a huge problem. It is a juggernaut poised to destroy every man in this country. We need to be honest with ourselves and each other and address the problem head-on. Hiding and deception and lying and ignoring is not going to make the problem go away. Talk to other men about this. I bet you would be suprised to find that most if not all men struggle to some degree with lust and temptation. If a man says he has no problem, he's probably lying and hiding something. Hood to Coast

Well, it's Friday and I am getting ready to run Hood to Coast. I'm a little nervous but not to run but because I have a previously large pain in my hip which I am trying to stretch out but I am having my doubt's. I just hope that it doesn't seriously affect my time, not for my sake but for my teammates. I don't want to be the"one". You know, the one that is the reason that a team doesn't do well. Not a good feeling. Oh well. I'm going to try to not let it bother me and go do the best that I can. On another note, on Sunday, the band that I play in, Quarterhorse, is playing @ a block party. Should be fun. I can see a definite progression here. Firsy we played @ a grad party, now a block party. When we get to a company party, then a bar mitzvah, I'll know we've made the big time. Car show

There was a really cool car show @ our church this weekend. About 60 cars. Kind of small but only the 4th year so it can only get better. Some pretty cool cars. I'm partial to trucks, specifically the early 60's Chevy. Had a couple there. One was restored to pretty original stock and the other was more custom. Best of show was a 38 Chevy coupe. Bright red w/ a bright red paint job and more custom work than I can describe. Also, only 4 more days till Hood to Coast. This is my first year so I'm a little apprehensive because I don't quite know what to expect. I mean, I should know all the legs since my wife has done it for 9 years. She is a pretty amazing runner and is my inspiration. Anyway, I'll let you know how it goes later.

What's new ???????

Hey all,(Dave) I've been busy and haven't been posting anything (Dave) because I've been busy (Dave) and haven't had time to put anything on here (Dave).Actually, I've been kind of lazy about this blog because I've been spending time on my other blog www.jessica-goes-to-africa.blogspot.com and have been neglecting this one. Lots has happened since I last posted. Jessica went to Africa and just returned todat after almost 2 months there. You can read all about it at the previously mentioned link. Lots of pix and info. Great to have her home. Anyway, things are good. Amanda, our recent graduate, is loving her job @ Starbucks. She is doing really well. Also she is still dancing and signed up for college classes. On July 1st, we moved Carolyns business (hair salon) to their new location and it was an instant hit. People love the new,roomier and open design of the building. I ran a half-marathon on June 23rd and did okay. 2 hrs 14 min. It was really hard but now I am going to run Hood to Coast. That will be interesting. Anyway, gotta go. Will post more later.I added a few new items to my page. Hope you all enjoy.

Wow. Iv'e been so busy getting Jessica ready to go to South Africa and keeping everyone posted on her blog that I am ashamed to say I haven't even mentioned that Amanda graduated from high school. She looked so beautiful. It was a very proud moment for Carolyn and I.Shealso started her job @ Starbuckshere in Sherwood and has registered for classes @ P.C.C.. She is also going to continue to dance. Very emotional weekend for mom and dad. Between Amanda graduating on Friday night and Jessica leaving on Sunday, we (I) were/was emotionally drained. After we dropped off Jess @ the airport on Sunday morning, we were walking back to the car and Amanda said "Dad, why are you such a baby?" I had to laugh. I guess I get emotional about my kids. Hey all. Sorry I haven't posted anything for awhile. I have been really busy with several musical forays. First was worship team @ church but that is no big deal. Also, I was in the choir for Easter and we spent a lot of time getting ready for that and then I helped out with worship music @ the Mens retreat. What an awesome experience. We were @ the Resort at the Mountain. What an amazing venue to get close to God and be men around other men. We had fun and we were able to draw close to God. The music was awesome but not because of anything I did. We had an amazing group of musicians that I was in awe of and wondering why I was asked to be a part of that. Oh well, who am I to argue. Rick, I know you have been wanting me to post some worship charts and chords and other things on my blog. As soon as I have something, I will post it. Sorry it is taking so long. I'm not very tech savvy.

nothing to say
Well, here I am, sittting in front of my computer with ABSOLUTELY nothing to say. How do people sit for hours in front of a computer and pour out their hearts and souls for all the world to see? Who has the time? Here it is, 7:10 on a Sunday morning and I'm getting ready to go to church. I have to be there by 8:30 to practice music for the 9:00 am service. Then there's the 10:45 service, followed by lunch, then we will probably go grocery shopping. Oh, and I need to do some more painting @ home(my wife has decided to change the paint color inside the house....................,FOR THE THIRD TIME). Then I need to take my daughter out to practice her driving before her test on Wednesday and I probably should go re-route the phone line for the Visa machines @ the salon which means that I have to crawl under the house and its probably cold and wet and lots of bugs. Maybe I'll save that for later. But despite all that I have to do, God has provided another beautiful day and I praise Him because without Him, nothing I can or could or would or should do would be possible. See what I mean; I have ABSOLUTELY nothing to say. And who has time for this................

Hey everyone, here is a new blog with a shorter name. No email name attached to the beginning so easier to remember. This is due to a suggestion from a friend who said " dude, that is so awesome but you need to shorten the name". Makes sense. ( Thanks, Rick) Anyway, enjoy. As soon as I get the hang of this, I will post lots of Taylor guitar pictures, clips and tutorials for all of you semi- guitar freaks who love your guitar but you, like me, are not quite good enough to quit your day job.
